Pāpaʻaloa Country Store & Cafe
About
From our ʻohana to yours, we welcome you to visit us at the Pāpaʻaloa Country Store & Cafe here in the heart of Hāmākua on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. We have a grocery store, bakery, espresso bar as well as a take-out food cafe (order online, by phone, or in person) and a dine-in restaurant and bar (temporarily closed due to COVID-19 precautions). Additionally, we sell propane and have an EV charger for your electric vehicles. In other words, something for everyone!
The Pāpaʻaloa Country Store & Cafe is family owned and operated business residing in a historic building that is over 130 years old (1890). It was originally built to serve the developing sugar industry which boomed in the islands for over 100 years. Throughout time, this store has served as the center of commerce and community life for the Big Island residents of the beautiful, rural Hāmākua Coast. By 1990, sugar was no longer king but the people who call this home still needed a place to meet each other and their basic needs. In 2015, the store was restored to ensure that our growing community would continue to have a place to call their own. We are grateful to have the opportunity to honor the past by continuing the legacy of a family owned and operated business.
Hānai brothers, Sol Ammon and Galahad Blyth, work together with their staff to bring about their vision for a vibrant and welcoming hub for residents and visitors alike. We realize this daily through the Aloha Spirit that we share. Whether you have come to eat, shop, meet friends, listen to live music, check your postal box, refill propane, or have a pau hana drink in our bar, we hope you will enjoy your time here. E Komo Mai!
